KB00020 - Manually uninstalling Stickies
Basic Uninstallation
If something has gone wrong with the uninstallation routine, or you just want to be sure the app is completely gone, do this:
- Take a note of the Stickies data directory, found using these instructions
- Exit Stickies
- Delete the directory in which you installed Stickies, likely
c:\program files (x86)\stickies
- Delete the Stickies data directory - where you jotted down above. This is very likely to be in your user
profile, at
c:\users\<profile>\appdata\roaming\stickies
- Delete the Stickies shortcut in Start / All Programs / Startup
Advanced extras
- Although Stickies itself does not write to the registry, the install process does. If you have an
entry left in Add/Remove Programs for Stickies once it's been manually uninstalled, this can be
located in the registry in a key under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
. - If you're sure you don't need the uninstaller, you can also delete the
file
c:\windows\uninstallstickies.bat
- If you didn't unassociate Stickies from .ssk and .sti files, these associations are also stored in the registry. In Explorer, click Tools / Options / File Types and delete the SSK and STI extentions.
