KB00082 - I can't type on a sticky

Symptoms

• When I press keys, nothing appears on the sticky
• The cursor is a crosshair, but sometimes changes to something else
• When I press some keys, the computer beeps at me

Solution

Open Stickies Settings, and on the New Notes tab, set the Type to be Text.

Explanation

There are two types of stickies. One type is text stickies, which is the type you're expecting to see, onto which you can type text and change the size and formatting of it and so on.

The other type is an image sticky, which is a picture, onto which you can draw lines and shapes and the like. For example, click on one of the problem notes you already have, press 'p' to change to the pen tool, and then you can draw onto it with the mouse.

You can see now how the option "New stickies are image stickies" works, and how switching it off means you can type into any new notes.
